Today marks my man, AA’s, birthday and this is an open letter of love and gratitude to celebrate his special day. Sometimes relationships can be a pain in the ass and a lot of work but when you’re with the right person, it’s all worth it! I am thankful to have found him!
Dear AA,
Today marks your 40-something birthday! I know that birthday’s aren’t a big deal for you; however, you also know they’re kind of a BIG deal for me. Birthdays are an excuse for me to make someone feel ridiculously special. And today, baby, it’s all about you! My job on your day of days, at least as I see it, is to celebrate the fabulousness of the one and only YOU.
Your Cranium
You like to say that you’re a simple guy, well, you’re not. You’re about as deep and complicated a person I have ever met. Lucky for you, I like puzzles…Gemini’s bore easily. You are a maze of thoughts, experiences, passions and knowledge that inspire me to think beyond my egocentric ideals and keep me on my toes. Although, we don’t always agree, there is always something I learn from you and carry away from our argument heated debate conversations.
Your Integrity
You’re a man of your word, which in this crazy, wacked out world is hard to find. From the moment I met you, I knew that your word meant something. You always follow through with your promises and have been consistently honest. You’re an honorable man who lives life with sincerity and candor. Every day I am thankful to have you in not only my life, but in my daughter’s life. You walk the walk and talk the talk and expect the same of those around you. You raise the bar of truth, honesty, and dependability and because of this I can let down my guard and enjoy life, knowing that when I wake tomorrow…you’ll be there.
Your Parenting
When I divorced, I had primary physical custody of an infant. When I met you she was about to turn two. As a REAL man, who assumed 50% custody of your own two children, you entered our relationship knowing full well what getting involved with a woman with a child meant. You have stepped up for not only your children, but for mine as well. You are a loving father and step-father. Daily you demonstrate your love and devotion to all of our children with unwavering dedication. Your capacity for love is a testament to manhood that can only be rivaled, on par, with my own father who raised me. Of all of your strengths, this alone shows the true depth of your character.
Babe, on your birthday, I know that you may look at the number of candles on your cake and dwell over all the financial or career goals you imagined in your youth you would have achieved by now. I know this because I know you always strive to provide the best for your family. What you need to understand is that you already have provided the best…you. Your time, wisdom, integrity, patience, loyalty, and parenting prove what remarkable person you are. On your birthday I want to thank you. Thank you for being a REAL man. Thank you for showing me how a healthy, adult, relationship could be. And finally, thank you for inviting me to share your life with you.
